Fresco Trey is stepping into 2025 with confidence, fresh music, and a new outlook on life. The rising artist returned to We Need to Talk with host Nyla Simone for a candid conversation about his upcoming EP Mari, his relationship, and his fearless approach to the new year.
New Music & Artistic Evolution
Trey is gearing up for the release of Mari, a four-track EP dropping on January 23, 2025. The title, derived from the Greek word meaning to give 200% of yourself, reflects his renewed dedication to his craft. He also revealed that music videos will accompany each song, ensuring fans get a fully immersive experience. This follows his recent track A Night to Forget, which carried melancholic themes, but Trey assured listeners that his music is evolving alongside his personal growth.
Love, Growth & Balancing Fame
For the first time, Trey opened up about his relationship, sharing that he’s in a happy place both personally and musically. The shift is evident in his music, as he’s moving beyond his signature somber sound to embrace a more dynamic range of emotions. However, his father, affectionately called “Coach,” playfully warned him about publicly sharing his relationship, joking that it could affect his female fanbase.
Big Plans for 2025
Looking ahead, Trey’s mantra for the new year is simple: be fearless. He plans to take risks, push boundaries, and step into new ventures beyond music. This includes headlining his own shows, exploring acting opportunities, and launching Fresco the Label. Unlike traditional record deals, his label will offer artists both full deals and a fee-based service model that allows them to retain ownership of their masters.
Beyond Music: Personal Insights & Inspirations
Trey also shared personal anecdotes, including overcoming anxiety about whether fans would show up to his performances. He recalled a humorous story about an airport employee tracking him down on Instagram after scanning his ticket. When it comes to his musical influences, he cited Kanye West’s College Dropout and John Legend’s Let’s Get Lifted as all-time favorites, while expressing a strong desire to collaborate with Post Malone and Kanye.
Outside of music, basketball remains his favorite pastime, and when he started making significant money, his first purchases were a car and covering his parents’ car payments—a gesture that highlighted his deep family values.
