Four non-commercial radio stations in the NYC area have joined forces to create the Tri-State Public Radio Music Collaborative. The partnership aims to develop content, expand audiences, and generate new revenue.
The participating stations include WBGO 88.8 FM (Newark Public Radio), WQXR 105.9 FM (New York Public Radio), WFUV 90.7 FM (Fordham University Public Radio), and WSHU 91.1 FM (Sacred Heart University Public Radio).
“This project is a unique opportunity to leverage our geographical proximity and exceptional influence,” said WBGO President & CEO Steven A. Williams. “For the first time, we’ll work together to benefit public radio listeners and strengthen the public media system.”
The Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) has provided a grant to develop a five-year business model, including staffing and management plans. Public Media Company will assist with strategic planning, while Paragon will conduct digital audits and membership data analysis.
WFUV General Manager Chuck Singleton noted that this collaboration had been discussed for over a decade and praised CPB’s support. WQXR President & CEO LaFontaine E. Oliver emphasized the stations’ shared mission to make music more accessible, thanking WBGO for leading the effort.
