As members of the Writers Guild of America “fight the power” to demand greater pay and protection from artificial intelligence, Flavor Flav has joined them in their boycott of Hollywood.
On May 18, the Public Enemy rapper showed up to the picket line at the Warner Bros. studios in Burbank, California, where Jason Sudeikis and Quinta Brunson, two other celebrities, were also present to show their support.
“Happy to be here and happy to support. In a TMZ video clip, Flav can be heard saying, “I got ya’ll back. He reportedly also brought Liquid Death Water, 100 Irv’s Burgers, and 25 pizzas from Prince Street.
And it seemed only fitting that he briefly sang “Fight the Power,” the protest song by Public Enemy. The video is below.
Earlier this month, Snoop Dogg lent his support to the cause by asking musicians to boycott streaming services while speaking on a panel with Shirley Halperin of Variety and his business partner Larry Jackson.
The same manner that writers are finding it out, [artists] must do the same, according to Snoop. “The authors are on strike because they can’t get paid because of streaming. Because it’s not like the box office when it’s on the platform.
“How the fuck you get paid off of that shit is beyond me. How can one gain a billion streams without receiving a million dollars, please? Many of us artists dislike that we perform big numbers the most. But the sums don’t equal the money. Where the fuck is the money, for instance?
After Jackson disclosed that Gamma only made $16,000 from 500 million streams on YouTube Shorts, Snoop then turned his attention to YouTube. He yelled at the screen, “YouTube, y’all muthafuckas need to break bread or fake dead!”
On May 1, the Writers Guild of America went on strike, which led to the cancellation of programs like Saturday Night Live.
Rap fans will be disappointed to learn that Lil Uzi Vert’s SNL debut has been delayed. On the May 6 concert, the Philadelphia rapper was scheduled to take the stage while Pete Davidson served as the host.
