Kendrick Lamar’s dominance in hip-hop continues to impress even veteran rappers like Fat Joe and Jadakiss. On the May 8 episode of their new Joe and Jada podcast, the two discussed the rap landscape a year after Kendrick’s explosive battle with Drake. Jadakiss mentioned how quickly time had passed since the so-called “discrepancy,” saying it felt more recent than a year ago. Fat Joe responded by praising Kendrick’s overwhelming presence on L.A. radio, claiming that nine out of every ten songs played were Kendrick tracks. He added that even legendary local artists like Snoop Dogg and Tupac Shakur never saw this kind of saturation.
Jadakiss also acknowledged Kendrick’s talent but reflected on how rap beef has changed. He preferred the traditional lyrical approach, saying it used to be about responding quickly in the studio. Now, he said, the focus has shifted toward theatrical elements like skits and false narratives, which has made him lose some interest. Despite his preference for a more old-school style, he respected the artistry involved.
The conversation raised the question of whether Joe and Jada caught Kendrick’s recent stadium show in New Jersey. While radio spins are one indicator of success, thousands of fans at MetLife Stadium suggest Kendrick’s influence has expanded well beyond the West Coast.
