Erykah Badu Lands Cameo In New Samuel L. Jackson & John David Washington Flick

Years of engaging audiences with her songs have led to Erykah Badu’s decision to take her talents to the big screen.

According to Variety, the next Netflix version of August Wilson’s The Piano Lesson is rumored to include an appearance from the singer-songwriter behind the hit song “On & On” (actual name Erica Abi Wright).

During her cameo, Badu will perform musical numbers with “her soulful sound and eclectic style.”

Both actors who starred in the well-liked Broadway version of Wilson’s play, including Samuel L. Jackson and John David Washington (“BlacKkKlansman,” “Malcom & Marie,” and “Tenet”), will reprise their roles in the movie.

The Piano Lesson is described as taking place in 1936 Pittsburgh in the wake of the Great Depression and focusing on the life of the Charles family, a home run by Doaker Charles (Jackson), and a family artifact, the piano, which bears carvings made by an enslaved ancestor. Jackson created the part of Boy Willie, Doaker’s nephew, which Washington now plays.

The movie also stars Corey Hawkins (Straight Outta Compton, The Tragedy of Macbeth), Danielle Deadwyler (Till, The Harder They Fall), Michael Potts (Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom, Rustin), and Ray Fisher (Zack Snyder’s Justice League, Rebel Moon).

The movie’s producers are Todd Black and Denzel Washington, who is also John David’s father. Katia Washington, Jennifer Roth, and Constanza Romero are additional executive producers.

It appears like Erykah Badu has been performing well recently. In addition to taking on this new position, she will join Yasiin Bey on a 25-city tour of the United States.

The Unfollow Me tour will begin on June 11 at the AT&T Center in San Antonio, Texas, and it will last for three weeks. The American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas, will host the event’s conclusion on July 23.
