New York, NY – Erykah Badu received the Fashion Icon Award at the 2024 CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) Awards, with her former partner André 3000 presenting the honor. The OutKast rapper took to the stage on October 29 to celebrate the mother of his child.
André shared how Badu surprised him with the award news, joking, “I didn’t know if she was gonna say, ‘I’m pregnant’ or ‘I’m in a new relationship.’” He added, “Erykah is one of the most original and unique human beings I’ve ever known… a true inspiration to everyone.”
Badu, wearing her signature bold look, embraced André on stage, calling him her “best friend.” She spoke about fashion’s impact on her, saying, “It’s my therapy, my workout, my husband—no offense.” She closed with humor, adding, “What I’m trying to say is, I can dress,” earning applause.
Though separated, Badu and André 3000 remain close. Last month, they reunited with their son Seven for a rare family photo, and the former couple performed a duet at André’s Dallas show earlier this month.
