Eminem Joins Effort To Bring WNBA Expansion Team To Detroit.

Eminem is part of a group aiming to bring a WNBA expansion team to his hometown of Detroit. According to Sportico, the rapper has joined forces with several business leaders and team owners to support the city’s bid.

The group is led by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores and includes executives connected to other Detroit franchises like the Red Wings, Tigers, and Lions. Other notable names in the group reportedly include former NBA player Grant Hill, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff, and General Motors CEO Mary Barra.

Detroit is one of several cities that submitted a formal bid to the WNBA ahead of the league’s February deadline. Other bids came from cities such as Charlotte, Cleveland, Denver, Houston, Kansas City, Austin, Philadelphia, and Nashville. Most of the bids are backed by current NBA ownership groups.

While the WNBA initially planned to add one expansion team, growing interest may lead to two or three new teams. The league already has plans to bring teams to San Francisco, Portland, and Toronto in the coming years.

Eminem has been a consistent supporter of Detroit sports throughout his career. He frequently attends games and has shown public support for teams like the Pistons and Lions. His involvement in the WNBA bid continues that commitment to the city’s sports culture.

Detroit’s sports landscape is seeing renewed energy. The Lions have made back-to-back NFL playoff appearances, and the Pistons are working toward their first winning season since 2015–2016. The addition of a WNBA team could further strengthen that momentum.
