E-40 just acquired an honorary doctorate degree in music from his old mater, Grambling State University, adding a new surname to his portfolio.
40 Water was there for the graduation ceremony at GSU on Friday (May 12), when he also spoke to the graduating students and gave advice, support, and words of thanks.
Being from the Magazine Street – 1300 block of Vallejo, California, ya get how much this means to me, man? E-40 informed the audience of the Bay Area.
“This means a lot to me because I traveled far. I want to start by thanking God. Always. I accept this honorary doctorate in music with the utmost appreciation and honor. I’d want to thank the administration for everything.
E-40 gave Grambling $100,000 earlier this year to support the HBCU’s marching band and aid in the construction of a recording studio. The studio was then given the famous alum’s name by the school.
Before going on to become a rap legend, E-40 attended an HBCU in the middle of the 1980s. When encouraging the following generation of students to pursue their own musical ambitions, he voiced his intention to do the same.
Hey, I’m feeling great about it too. What do you say? When he presented his donation in February, he said, “I feel pretty wonderful, and God is awesome, right? My passion is music. Music is calming and relaxing.
“There was a movie on my street every day. There is always something going on, whether it be couples talking nonsense in the middle of the street or people arguing in the middle of the night.
Particularly during the 1980s, when I felt like I ought to leave immediately and watch God operate inexplicably, 40 continued. Because I’ve always been open-minded, it wasn’t that I had to. It’s a privilege and a joy to be back at the university I once attended. There have been many changes, but not many.
