Drake Wins First Grammy In Four Years Even Without Music Submission

Drake didn’t submit any of his music for the 2023 Grammys, but he still won his first Grammy in four years.

Due to his involvement on Future’s “Wait For U,” which also features Tems, the OVO hitmaker won the Best Melodic Rap Performance award.

The “I Never Liked You song triumphed over Kendrick Lamar’s “Die Hard,” DJ Khaled’s “Beautiful,” Jack Harlow’s “First Class,” and Latto’s “Big Energy (Live)” to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and earn triple platinum certification.

King Kendrick, a resident of Compton, won Best Rap Album (Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers), Best Rap Song (“The Heart Part 5”), and Best Rap Performance (“The Heart Part 5”), although he was prohibited from winning all three categories in the rap genres.

Drake received four nominations that night, despite the fact that he didn’t submit any solo work for consideration. Both “Wait For U” and his Jack Harlow-produced song “Churchill Downs” were contenders for Best Rap Song.

Due to his co-writing credit on “Heated” from Beyoncé’s Renaissance album, Drizzy also had a shot at winning Album of the Year.

The native of Toronto last won a Grammy in 2019 for Best Rap Song with “God’s Plan.” In addition, he received nominations in four other categories that year, including Best Rap Performance (“Nice For What,” “Sicko Mode”), Song of the Year (“God’s Plan”), Record of the Year (“God’s Plan”), and Album of the Year (“Scorpion”).
