Drake Surprises Fans at Vybz Kartel’s First Toronto Show

Drake made a surprise appearance at Vybz Kartel’s first-ever Toronto concert on Sunday night (Oct. 26), taking the stage at a sold-out Scotiabank Arena to honor the dancehall legend.

The Toronto native told fans he used to hand out flyers just to hear Kartel’s music at local clubs, calling it a “full-circle moment” for his city. “As a city, as a family, make some noise,” Drake said, giving Kartel his flowers before launching into a surprise set.

From a balcony in the lower bowl, Drake performed eight hits spanning his career — including “Controlla,” “Hold On We’re Going Home,” “One Dance,” “Rich Baby Daddy,” “Hotline Bling,” “Signs,” and “Nokia.”

The night marked the first of three OVO-presented Vybz Kartel shows in Toronto, with additional performances set for October 27 and 30.

The appearance follows the duo’s joint set at Wireless Festival in London earlier this year. Just two days before the show, Drake celebrated his 39th birthday in the Bahamas and received six new diamond RIAA certifications, including one for Take Care.

Fans now await Drake’s next project, Iceman, which still has no confirmed release date.
