Drake, Lil Wayne, And Nicki Minaj Rewrite Billboard Hot 100 Records

Drake, Lil Wayne & Nicki Minaj Stamp Young Money's Legacy With New Chart Feat

Young Money’s position in Hip Hop history has been further cemented with Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj becoming the three rappers with the most top 10 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.

Nicki’s “Barbie Girl” duet with Ice Spice, which debuted at No. 7 on the chart and matched the popularity of Aqua’s 1997 single of the same name, which it samples, gave her her 23rd top 10 hit on the chart on Monday (July 3).

The Queens, New York native has surpassed JAY-Z and Eminem, both of whom have 22 top 10 singles, to move up to third place on the list of rappers with the most top 10 hits in Hot 100 history.

Lil Wayne comes in second with 25 top 10 songs over a successful career that has lasted almost as long. He barely beats out his Young Money protégé. His most recent was Jack Harlow’s “Whats Poppin (Remix)” in 2020.

The 6 God, who has 68 top 10 hits to his credit and is still going, is by far the leader. He also leads the whole music industry with that number, trailing only pop superstar Taylor Swift with 40.

Drake’s record-breaking streak began in 2009 when “Best I Ever Had” reached the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, and it was continued this past April when “Search & Rescue” soared to a No. 4 debut.

When Drizzy’s upcoming album, reportedly titled For All the Dogs, drops later this year, his dominion over the charts will undoubtedly grow even stronger. It will follow Certified Lover Boy, Honestly, Nevermind, and Her Loss with 21 Savage as his fourth full-length release in the past two years. The project was unexpectedly unveiled last month.

In addition, Nicki and Wayne are working on their upcoming albums, Pink Friday 2 (due November 17) and Tha Carter IV (details TBA).

The success of Drake, Lil Wayne, and Nicki Minaj on the charts furthers one of the greatest runs in Hip-Hop history and supports Weezy’s choice to add the two musicians to his embryonic Young Money company back in 2009.

The New Orleans rap superstar recalled on how he initially discovered Drake and Nicki and discussed how he monitored their early success during a recent interview on the I AM ATHLETE program.

“I saw way more than just potential,” he declared. “When the buddy Jas [Prince] introduced me to Drake’s music, it was rap-related. This guy sounds unusual, I thought. He sounded just as awesome as we did, which is something I appreciated about him. When I say “we,” I’m referring to the streets and our origins.

“You could make working in a cubicle sound like the most fun thing in the world, I told him. Don’t give up. Later, I overheard [singing voice]. ‘What the heck was that?’ sort of thing Who is he on the hook, I distinctly recall asking Mack [Maine]. ‘That’s him too,’ he says. You must be the best artist ever.
