Drake is being discussed as a potential headliner for the inaugural FIFA World Cup final halftime show, set to take place in 2026. FIFA president Gianni Infantino addressed the speculation during an interview with Good Day New York on Thursday (March 6), responding to a suggestion that the Toronto rapper could perform at the event.
Infantino acknowledged the idea and joked about Drake’s ongoing rivalry with Kendrick Lamar, saying, “So we can create a bit of a rivalry?” He also noted that Drake was present when FIFA announced the 2026 host cities and hinted that he still has the rapper’s contact information.
The World Cup final, scheduled for July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, will introduce a halftime show for the first time. The 2022 World Cup final had a peak global audience of 1.4 billion viewers, far surpassing the 133.5 million who watched the 2024 Super Bowl, where Lamar performed.
Coldplay has been confirmed to assist in planning the halftime show, though it remains unclear if they will perform. Infantino stated that Chris Martin and Phil Harvey would help finalize the lineup of artists. Drake has yet to respond to the speculation about his potential involvement.
