Selling one of Dr. Dre’s adorned catalog items may bring in over $200 million.
The renowned producer is reportedly close to signing two separate agreements to transfer a portion of music revenue streams and other assets to Shamrock Holdings and Universal Music Group.
The transactions, which were being pitched for a total of $250 million, were being pushed by Dre’s longtime counsel, Peter Paterno. A source close to the rap mogul claimed that even if the sale price isn’t nearly that high, it will still be “far beyond $200 million.”
The assets, which bring in almost $10 million annually, consist of producer royalties, Dr. Dre’s share of N.W.A artist royalties, artist royalties from two of Dr. Dre’s solo albums, and the songwriter’s share of his song catalog, which may or may not include songs from his critically acclaimed 1992 debut LP The Chronic.
These provide between 75 and 90 percent of the package’s income, and Shamrock is probably buying them. The master recording of The Chronic, which is scheduled to be handed over from Death Row Records to Dre in August, is one of the assets that UMG is reportedly buying with the remaining 10 to 25 percent generated by owned assets.
