A Family Dollar location in Dorchester was shut down by Boston Inspectional Services following a viral video posted by local content creator Mike Deez. The video, which showed rat traps raised concerns about store conditions, prompted a city inspection that deemed the site an imminent health hazard.
The shutdown was reported by WBZ-TV’s Mike Sullivan, who credited Deez for bringing the issue to public attention. Deez, who uses his Instagram platform to document overlooked issues in Boston’s neighborhoods, shared the news on his page, noting that his content was featured on WBZ/CBS News Boston.
In the Instagram video, Deez explained that he had seen an initial post about the store and decided to investigate further. His footage—captured inside the Family Dollar—ultimately led to city officials intervening.
“IT’S MIKE DEEZ NOTHING ELSE‼️‼️‼️,” he concluded in the caption, emphasizing his role in shining light on things that are not seen in the city of Boston.
Family Dollar has not publicly commented on the closure at this time.
