Tampa rapper Doechii kicks off the year with the release of her “Denial Is a River” music video on Jan. 2. Co-directed by Carlos Acosta and James Mackel, the video draws inspiration from classic Black sitcoms like Family Matters and features a star-studded cast, including Zack Fox, Rickey Thompson, and TDE artists ScHoolboy Q and SiR.
The video follows Doechii in an autobiographical sitcom format and builds on teasers she shared featuring soap opera-inspired skits. It accompanies her mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal, which debuted in August and reached No. 82 on the Billboard 200.
To promote the single, Doechii will host a live stream, “Denial Is a Stream,” at 6 p.m. ET on YouTube. She’s also eyeing three Grammy wins, including Best New Artist, ahead of the Feb. 2 ceremony.
