The Department of Public Imagination is set to launch its first-ever pop-up installation, running from July 25 to August 10 at 545 Columbia Road in Dorchester.
Rooted in themes of imagination, remembrance, and future building, the installation invites visitors to reflect on collective memory and envision new ways to shape Boston’s social and physical landscape. The space encourages participants to consider key questions: What do we remember? How has our community’s imagination physically shaped Boston? And what might we imagine moving forward using new tools and perspectives?
The multi-day activation will feature a range of public programs aimed at building community through art, conversation, and hands-on learning.
Event Highlights:
- July 25 – Soft Opening & Jam Session with @blackcottonclub
- July 28 – Grand Opening and Panel Discussion
- July 29 – Herbal Workshop with @sankofa.anacaona.botanicals
- August 3 – “Church” with @newrootschurch and a Theatre Production Workshop with @companyoneboston
- August 6 – Movement Workshop with @modern_connections
The installation was developed as part of Design Studio for Social Intervention’s (DS4SI) Design in Practice program and Prototype Lab. Additional support for programming comes from Collective Futures Fund and The Triennial.
All events are free and open to the public.
