Davido Talks Chris Brown, YG Marley, Caribbean-Africa Connection & Dream Collaboration.

During his interview with Bootleg Kev, Afrobeats superstar Davido opened up about his dynamic collaborations, the impact of Caribbean and African music, and his dream collaborations before retiring.

Chris Brown: The Ultimate Entertainer

Davido praised Chris Brown, calling him a “workaholic” and likening him to Michael Jackson. He described Brown as an all-around talent—someone who can sing, dance, paint, act, and even play sports. Davido highlighted how inspiring it is to witness Chris Brown’s creative process firsthand, whether in the studio or on tour. He also compared Brown’s multi-faceted talent to Jamie Foxx, calling them two of the most gifted entertainers alive.

Linking With YG Marley & The Marley Legacy

Davido also discussed his collaboration with YG Marley, the grandson of reggae icon Bob Marley. He recalled meeting YG while on tour in Australia, where YG was traveling with his mother, Lauryn Hill, as part of a festival lineup. At the time, Davido didn’t realize YG was an artist, but months later, he heard his music on the radio and reached out to collaborate. He emphasized the importance of bridging the gap between Africa and the Caribbean, noting how Afrobeat and reggae have deep cultural ties.

Strengthening the Caribbean-Africa Connection

Davido shared his love for Caribbean culture, mentioning that he and his wife vacation there every New Year’s Eve, island-hopping from St. Kitts to the Bahamas and Montego Bay. He also acknowledged how Afrobeats and dancehall share similar rhythms and tempos, making the two genres naturally blend in clubs across Jamaica and Trinidad. The Nigerian star expressed excitement about the growing connection between African and Caribbean artists, emphasizing his many collaborations with Jamaican acts like Popcaan, Shenseea, and 450.

New Album & Victoria Monét Collab

With his new album just weeks away, Davido revealed that Victoria Monét will be featured on the project. He described her as an incredible talent, sharing that they first connected at the Grammys. He teased their upcoming music video, expressing excitement about blending their styles.

Dream Collaborations: Rihanna, Drake & Billie Eilish

When asked about artists he still hopes to work with, Rihanna topped his list. He recalled her publicly naming his song “Unavailable” as her favorite of the year, which he saw as a positive sign for a future collaboration. He also mentioned Drake and Billie Eilish, believing their unique styles could create something special together.
