DaBaby’s musical prowess has led to comparisons to 2Pac, and now his vision as a director has drawn comparisons to Spike Lee.
The rapper from North Carolina shared a clip from the set of a music video shoot on his Instagram Story on Wednesday (July 26). In it, Baby asks Lil Duval what they were doing while pointing the camera in his direction, to which the latter replied with some glowing praise.
The comedian said, “We got the goddamn Spike Lee of this shit.” “This shit’s new Spike Lee.” The MC, who is 31 years old, nodded in agreement before stating that they were creating a music video for his song “Squeeze.”
“Just shot the video for squeeze yesterday,” Duval wrote in a post to his Instagram on Thursday (July 27) alongside behind-the-scenes images from the production. I’m eager for you to see it. I believe it will be unique. @dababy directed the film.
DaBaby has recently expanded his range of work by assuming more directing responsibilities. His most significant works to date include the “F My BM” video by Moneybagg Yo as well as the video additions to two of his own songs, “SHAKE SUMN” and “SELLIN CRACK.”
Fans have commended the KIRK rapper for his original style as a conductor of images, with one commenting on Lil Duval’s recent post on social media, “Da baby about to be the new go to for videos. I get nostalgic seeing his vids of Luda and Missy.
