Drake’s series of double performances at the venerable Apollo Theater will finally take place in 2023 after being postponed once before.
The event was originally scheduled for November 11, but it was postponed to December 8 and 9 in honor of TakeOff’s memorial services. According to Complex, the shows will no longer air on January 21 and 22, 2023, because of “production delays.”
“These upcoming shows for SiriusXM are so incredibly special for us. If you are going to play the world famous Apollo Theater, it has to be a world class production,” Drake, SiriusXM, and Sound 42 said in a statement. “We as a team have been working around the clock not just putting together a concert but an experience our fans deserve. With that said, we are up against some production delays that are just out of our control.
Cuts from Drizzy’s most recent album with 21 Savage, which he recently referred to as one of the “best albums” he’s worked on and thinks may even rank in the Top 3 of his illustrious discography, may be significantly featured during the performance.
“[Her Loss] is one of the greatest albums I ever made in my life,” Drake said in a recent SiriusXM interview. “I said the other day, I think this is a clear entry into my top five of my catalog – if not, top three.”
With 411,000 equivalent copies sold in its first week, the album opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, becoming Drake’s second No. 1 of the year. The combined LP reportedly generated 500 million streams during one of the largest streaming weeks ever.
Jermaine Dupri has made a proposal to collaborate with Drake on an upcoming album, but with a distinct R&B focus.
