Club Ambition Host Reacts to Earl Sweatshirt’s New Album.

On the latest episode of the Club Ambition podcast, host Victor, also known as Sound, dove into a first-listen reaction and review of Earl Sweatshirt’s newest album. What he described was a complex mix of admiration, confusion, and intrigue, ultimately rating the project a 5.5 out of 10 on initial playthrough.

Victor called the album “one of the most interesting and unique listening experiences of the year,” noting Earl’s trademark ability to bend language and flow in unconventional ways. He described it as “mumble rap but with higher level intellect,” pointing to the rapper’s sophisticated vocabulary and layered metaphors delivered with a low-key, laid-back cadence.

Standout Tracks

Three tracks stood out during the first listen:

  • “Exhaust” — Victor’s top pick, calling it the clearest sounding cut on the project.
  • “Krisco” — praised for its delivery and production, handled by Navy Blue.
  • “Alive” — highlighted for its unsettling yet compelling atmosphere, which Victor said created a unique “experience” in itself.

The podcast host described the overall production as very distorted and experimental, reminding him of Alchemist’s beats and the late MF DOOM’s avant-garde style. Throughout the album, Earl’s vocals are filtered with static and echo effects, enhancing the off-kilter sound.

At just about 20 minutes in length, the album is concise but dense. Victor admitted that while some tracks struck him as “ass,” others landed as “really good,” reflecting the polarizing effect of Earl’s music.

While he doesn’t feel this record tops earlier projects like Doris, Sick!, or Some Rap Songs, Victor emphasized his respect for Earl’s artistry. “Earl is one of one,” he said, stressing that listeners will either connect with his style or not at all.

Victor admitted he felt conflicted after finishing the album: “I don’t know what I just experienced.” Still, he plans to replay it multiple times given its brevity and believes every element, no matter how unusual, feels intentional.

Ultimately, Victor praised Earl Sweatshirt’s authenticity, describing him as “one of the weirdest but most talented rappers in hip-hop.” Comparing the experience to looking at a painting, he concluded that the project should be appreciated as art, even if it leaves listeners puzzled at first.
