The City Girls have recently released two new tunes to start off their “elevated pussy rap” summer invasion.
JT and Yung Miami delivered a one-two punch to the public on Friday (June 9) with the release of “I Need a Thug” and the Southside-produced “Piata.” The former reverses the 1987 LL COOL J classic “I Need Love.”
According to the duo, the album the songs will be featured on will have a completely different vibe from them—one that is elevated—in an interview with Complex about the new music.
“I felt like we were just having fun, like other projects. We didn’t dwell on it or overthink it, Miami said. We would simply write tunes and arrange them. Now it’s just like we consider these records and decide what will be fantastic.
JT continued, “Right now, it’s just about perfection. I don’t want to publish any corny material. We’ve been here for what feels like an eternity, and I don’t even want to play like we used to. I desire good, popular music. Despite being considerably more refined, it is still pussy rap that sounds like fun. It is sophisticated pussy rap.
The Florida pair has maintained consistency since the release of their sophomore album City On Lock in 2020 with a number of singles, such as “Twerkulator” in 2021 and “Good Love” with Usher in 2022.
In May, City Girls, Diddy, and Fabolous collaborated on their most recent album, “Act Bad.”
The Bad Boy boss introduced the song by saying, “We all teamed up together to drop the song of the summer.” “This summer is going to act bad.” He defined “acting bad” as accepting one’s individuality, letting go, and “not giving a fuck.”
The new album from City Girls will be released this summer, but it won’t be on July 29, 2022, as originally planned. Miami claimed during an Instagram Live last summer that “issues” prevented the anticipated release.
“The album was supposed to drop on July 29, but it’s not dropping because we had some issues — not issues, but you know, when you dropping an album, you have to make sure everything is good,” she said.
Later that week, JT took to Twitter to provide a more detailed justification for the album delay. Our album isn’t done yet! “TF,” she emphasized.
