Cincinnati Rose has officially unveiled his latest project, a 13-track body of work titled The Man Behind The Pen. The release marks a turning point in the rapper’s creative journey, as he reflects on more than a decade of shaping his musical identity and now sets his sights on new ground.
“For the past 11 years I’ve created an image and a narrative of who I am musically,” the rapper shared. Known for gritty and emotionally charged storytelling, he built his reputation as “a sophisticated street rapper that can make you cry with a song filled with melodic pain.” But as he notes, those records captured a different season of his life.
“Tho those songs describe who I was and how I felt at that time, I’m no longer in that space mentally or emotionally,” he explained.
That shift in perspective is what fuels The Man Behind The Pen. According to Cincinnati Rose, the project showcases not just his writing ability, but his desire to connect beyond a single demographic. “It highlights my ability to write for and connect to not only folks like me that grew up in the inner city, but to do that with people of all walks and cultures.”
Initially hesitant about the direction, he admits he had to remind himself of his larger purpose: “I refuse to be a crab in a barrel and I refuse to limit my gift to one demographic and audience.”
That mindset frames The Man Behind The Pen as both a bold experiment and a natural evolution. For Cincinnati Rose, hearing his words take shape in new ways has been rewarding in itself. “Being able to hear my words come to life in a way I’ve never experienced is an amazing blessing within itself🙏🏾,” he said, emphasizing the passion behind the work.
Closing on a heartfelt note, he shared his hope for listeners: “I just hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.”
