Cardi B’s ‘Am I The Drama?’ Debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 200, Becomes First Female Rapper With Back-to-Back Chart-Topping Albums.

Cardi B’s second studio album, Am I The Drama?, has opened at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, earning 200,000 equivalent album units in its first week. The debut avoids the typical “sophomore slump” and follows the success of her 2018 debut Invasion of Privacy, which also topped the chart.

The accomplishment makes Cardi B the first female rapper in history to achieve consecutive No. 1 albums to start a career. Celebrating the news, she shared a compilation of behind-the-scenes footage from the album’s recording sessions and family moments. In her caption, she thanked fans for their support and reflected on surpassing industry projections that initially placed the album at 115,000 units. She added a playful note about marking the milestone without champagne, opting instead for cranberry juice due to her pregnancy.

Cardi revealed she is expecting her fourth child with NFL player Stefon Diggs, just days before releasing the album and announcing dates for her upcoming tour.

The Bronx rapper previously explained that the delay in releasing Am I The Drama? stemmed from uncertainty about how it would be received. Despite her concerns, the album delivered a strong opening. Compared to Invasion of Privacy, which was powered by the breakout hit “Bodak Yellow,” the new project’s lead singles, “Outside” and “Imaginary Playerz,” had less commercial impact. Additionally, chart-topping singles “WAP” and “Up” were not included in the album’s streaming totals. Without that exclusion, first-week numbers could have been significantly higher.
