Cardi B made it clear that nothing comes before her children. The Grammy-winning rapper appears on the latest cover of PAPER magazine, released on October 14, where she opened up about motherhood, strength, and her fierce approach to protecting her family.
“This week I showed the world that I will get the most nasty about mine,” she said. “I never had to get that nasty for my kids. But I did, and I really feel like a lioness. This has been one of the moments I got tested the most about being a parent. But it just goes to show me how strong I am, and it just goes to show me like, Damn, I will really take it to hell for mines mentally, physically, anything. And I wouldn’t care.”
Cardi’s comments appear to reference her recent feud with Nicki Minaj, which escalated online earlier this month and led both artists to trade personal insults involving their children.
In addition to the dispute with Minaj, Cardi also addressed her back-and-forth with rapper BIA. On her Am I the Drama? track “Pretty & Petty,” Cardi takes aim at BIA after the “Whole Lotta Money” rapper previously mentioned Cardi’s kids on a diss track titled “SUE MEEE?” last year.
“You mentioned my kids tryna be cute,” Cardi said during an appearance on The Breakfast Club. “She did her little diss and it was trash. But when my kids grow up one day and they see that you mentioned them, they’re gonna ask me, ‘So what you said? What you did?’ I’m not gonna tell my kids I took the high road. I’m [gonna be] like, ‘You see how I violated?’”
BIA has since moved on, choosing not to respond with a diss track of her own on her debut album BIANCA.
Meanwhile, Cardi continues to balance music, motherhood, and a growing family. Her sophomore album Am I the Drama? debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in September, and she is preparing to welcome her fourth child before kicking off The Little Miss Drama Tour in February.
