The recently concluded NOW OR NEVER RENAISSANCE event, organized by PUTINWORK drew more than 500 people to Unity in Dorchester last weekend. The night was marked as a strong showing for Boston’s growing music and arts community, blending performances, collaboration, and celebration without any reported violence or disruption.
However, one moment from the evening gained unexpected attention online. A clip surfaced showing Boston artist Caev punching through part of the venue’s ceiling during his performance. The video quickly circulated, generating mixed reactions on social media.
While some commenters criticized the act as unnecessary or corny, others defended it as typical of Caev’s high-energy stage presence. Caev later addressed the situation directly, explaining that he had spoken with the venue’s owner afterward and that they “figured everything out.” He described the move as unplanned and said he simply got carried away in the moment.
In response to the online conversation, the event organizer, Robert Kelly-Morgan took to social media to emphasize the success of the night overall. He noted that Unity was transformed into a “modern-day juke joint,” highlighting that over 500 attendees came together to celebrate Boston’s creative culture. Rob also confirmed that the venue benefited financially from the event and that there were no ongoing issues related to the damage.
He extended appreciation to Unity’s staff, the performing artists, and attendees, calling for continued positivity and collaboration within Boston’s creative community.
Despite the brief controversy, the NOW OR NEVER RENAISSANCE event stood as a successful showcase of local talent and community support, reaffirming Boston’s growing role as a hub for live music and art.
