Busta Rhymes, who believes that the Compton rapper makes some of the best music videos in the industry today, has heaped some fairly high praise on Kendrick Lamar.
Busta was recently asked who he believes is leading the charge when it comes to creating music videos, and he didn’t waste any time citing K Dot and his most recent video for “The Heart Part 5”.
“That video was special, and they set a bar for the new generation when it came to the revolutionary visual impact that I and Missy were always successful at executing,” Busta said of Kendrick’s face-morphing visual. “The balance of simplicity and complexity in it is so incredibly powerful, and that’s not an easy balance to find.
He added: “I’m still looking to see who will come up with some s–t that’s gonna f–k with that. So visually, I’m giving Kendrick the crown. And that’s just one of the many things that Kendrick gets the crown for from me right now.”
Busta Rhymes is well recognized for creating visually stunning music videos in the 1990s and 2000s, including “Put Your Hands Where My Eyes Could See” and “What’s It Gonna Be?!” with Janet Jackson. As a result, he is familiar with what it takes to create visually appealing music videos.
Several nominations for the MTV Video Music Awards in categories including Best Hip Hop Video, Best Rap Video, Best Male Video, Breakthrough Video, and others are among his accomplishments.
Regarding Kendrick Lamar, the rapper from pgLang has just debuted the brand-new music video for “Rich Spirit,” which is taken from his fifth studio album Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers.
K Dot appears in an empty house in the Calmatic-directed video sporting a crimson dress and cowboy boots. Soon after, he starts demonstrating some dancing movements that are similar to those he has been using on his global tour.
Following the release of “N95” and the short film “We Cry Together,” starring Taylour Paige, “Rich Spirit” is the third music video in support of the widely lauded project.
The “Rich Spirit” video was released in addition to Kendrick receiving eight Grammy nominations for the album. He has received nominations for “The Heart Part 5,” Best Rap Album, Best Rap Song, Best Rap Performance, Best Music Video, and Best Melodic Rap Performance, in addition to the Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year awards.
On the Billboard 200 list, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers debuted at No. 1 with 295,000 album-equivalent units, which included 35,000 album sales and 258,000 streaming units. It was the first Hip Hop album to surpass 1 billion Spotify streams in 2022 and gave K Dot his fourth No. 1 album.
