British Boxing Drama Series Are Being Created By 50 Cent With Starz

Another TV show from 50 Cent is coming soon, and this time he’s teaming up with STARZ to immerse fans in the world of British boxing.

According to a Deadline article, Fightland, a drama series presently in development at STARZ, is being executive produced by 50. The scripted program tells the tale of a former world champion boxer who, after the disappearance of his boyhood friend and partner, discovers the evil side of the sport.

The disgraced boxer must return to the sport that nearly destroyed his life and cost him everything he had to quit it in order to find his best friend. The sitcom was created by the South London-born writing team of Marlon Smith and Daniel Fajemisin-Duncan.

Additionally, 50 Cent will collaborate on the show’s production with Expanded Media’s Francis Hopkinson and Katharine Leadbetter. Vice President of Original Programming Sebastian Arboleda and Director of Original Programming Alex Alberts will be in charge of the program for STARZ.

“Fightland embodies the stakes, swagger, and ambition that collaborations between Starz and 50 Cent have come to represent,” said Kathryn Busby, President, of Original Programming at Starz. “We are excited to be working with Daniel and Marlon who are brilliant writers and whose authentic take will bring this global story to life.”

Given that this is 50’s first production with STARZ since he revealed in September that his exclusive contract with the network had expired, the news of the show is very significant. There is no more information available at this time regarding 50 reuniting with STARZ.

The announcement comes a day after the renowned Queens rapper revealed a concept for a new program that would chronicle the life of notorious New York City criminal lord Clarence “The Preacher” Heatley. The owner of G-Unit posted a picture and photograph of Heatley on Instagram and asked followers if they were prepared for the next event.

The G-Unit leader said in a subsequent tweet that Heatley’s character might be played by actor and friend Gbenga Akinnagbe, best known for his portrayal of Chris Partlow on The Wire.

“I think my boy Gbenga Akinnagbe should play The Black Hand Of Death,” 50 added. “What do you think? #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi.”
