Boston’s Sonic Passports Concert Promises a Global Music Journey — No Flight Required.

What if you could travel the world without ever leaving Boston? This spring, the Esplanade Association is making that dream a reality with Sonic Passports — a free, immersive outdoor concert experience set to transform the iconic DCR Hatch Shell into a global stage on May 28.

Presented in collaboration with Travel Through Music, Sonic Passports isn’t just another live music show — it’s a vibrant celebration of sound, story, and cultural connection. From Malagasy soul and Caribbean jazz, to spoken word and roots reggae, this event is built to transport listeners across continents — all in the span of one unforgettable evening by the Charles River.

The lineup brings together a mix of seasoned performers and rising voices who each offer a unique sonic perspective:

  • Amanda Shea — Boston’s own spoken word force, fusing poetry and performance into magnetic storytelling.
  • Conscious Band — Delivering smooth and uplifting reggae that moves both hearts and feet.
  • Niu Raza — The Madagascar-born, Boston-based singer blending soul, Afrobeat, and island grooves.
  • Safiya Leslie — A Caribbean jazz songstress with a rich voice and radiant stage energy.

But Sonic Passports doesn’t stop at the stage.

Introducing: The Listening Section — a one-of-a-kind artist alley where emerging musicians of all genres can table with their music, merch, and a sign proudly representing where they’re from. Instead of live sets, artists create curated listening experiences with plug-in stations (wired or Bluetooth) so attendees can literally tune into their sound. It’s a music discovery zone — minus the noise and pressure of performing live.

Calling all emerging artists and nonprofits:
Want to connect with an audience that’s passionate, curious, and community-minded? Whether you’ve got beats, lyrics, or a message, you’re invited to apply for a table and be part of the energy.

Sonic Passports is produced by Travel Through Music, an organization that helps people explore culture through sound — from subscription boxes and curated playlists to global music experiences. Their mission is simple yet powerful: build community and joy through the universal language of music.
