Boston Ujima Project to Host Field Day in Worcester Exploring Sports Through Solidarity Economy.

The Boston Ujima Project has announced details for its upcoming summer assembly event, Huddle: Worcester Field Day, scheduled for Saturday, July 19 in Worcester, MA. The day-long gathering is free and open to the public, and is designed to explore the intersection of sports, economic justice, and collective wellness within Black, Indigenous, and working-class communities of color.

As part of Ujima’s ongoing work to build a cooperative business, arts, and investment ecosystem, the Field Day will use games, movement, and discussion to examine what it could mean to reimagine sports through the lens of a solidarity economy—an economic model rooted in cooperation, community ownership, and shared benefit rather than private profit.

The day’s programming includes kickball, group workouts, music, food, and political education sessions, along with open space for attendees to connect, reflect, and participate in collective decision-making. According to organizers, the goal is to position sports not just as recreation, but as a site of cultural identity, resistance, and economic possibility.

The event is part of Ujima’s larger 2025 Summer Assembly, which focuses on testing and building community-centered models across multiple sectors. For this gathering, physical movement is being centered as a political practice, creating a space where athletic activity and social organizing converge.
