Boston’s own Sun Bangaz and Dorian lent their creative talents behind the scenes as production assistants on a new Converse Hoops campaign starring NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and his brother Thomasi. The two are part of the rising Massachusetts-based creative group Midas, known for their consistent output in fashion, music, and visual culture.
The campaign imagery was revealed this week via Instagram, spotlighting the Gilgeous-Alexander brothers styled in contrasting looks: “CHARM BLACK 🖤” and “MASI BLUE 🧊.” ConverseHoops captioned the post, “@shai and @thomasi in CHARM BLACK. Like mother, like sons,” referencing the Charm Black 001s — a sneaker colorway named in honor of their mother, Charmaine Gilgeous.
Shot by photographer and director Sam Balaban, the visuals blend minimalist styling with personal storytelling. Creative direction came from Justin Jiang, with the brothers styling themselves for the shoot. The campaign marks a rare joint brand feature for Shai and Thomasi, bringing a family dynamic to Converse’s ongoing series of athlete-led campaigns.
Sun Bangaz and Dorian supported the shoot alongside a full creative and production team, including producer Cai Grace, gaffer Scott Gauvain, lighting techs Jake Fay and Georgia Pantazopoulos, and digital tech dividedbyxero. Converse’s internal team was represented by Dani Lanae and Julian Guy, with management by ISLA.
This latest contribution underscores Sun Bangaz and Dorian’s growing footprint in national campaigns — further evidence of the creative force building within Midas and Boston’s wider artistic scene.
