Anthony Pattin has launched the Junction Family Pharmacy in Toledo, Ohio, marking a significant step toward reducing health disparities in the local Black community. Located at 1339 Dorr St., this independent, Black-owned pharmacy aims to provide accessible, personalized care, a contrast to the high-volume chains often lacking such services.
With over 15 years of experience as a pharmacy professor, Pattin brings deep expertise to his new venture. After living in Buffalo, New York, he chose to return to his hometown to serve his community and involve his family in the business. “Coming back to my family and community made this effort even more meaningful,” Pattin shared.
The opening has already sparked interest, with locals transferring prescriptions to support the new pharmacy. Pattin emphasized the importance of serving patients who share his background, noting that such representation is often absent in larger pharmacy settings.
Pattin’s journey began in high school, inspired by helping an elderly neighbor manage her medication. His education includes a doctorate in pharmacy from the University of Toledo and research focused on African Americans’ perceptions of vaccines. These experiences shaped his understanding of disparities in healthcare access and delivery.
“Access is critical. It’s not that people don’t want medications or services—they often aren’t available nearby,” Pattin said. His pharmacy is designed to bridge these gaps, offering compassionate care and addressing social determinants of health.
At Junction Family Pharmacy, Pattin prioritizes building trust through genuine relationships with patients, reinforcing his commitment to making a lasting impact on Toledo’s healthcare landscape.
