The NFL has selected New Orleans artists for the Super Bowl LIX pre-game show. Ledisi will sing Lift Every Voice and Sing, known as the Black National Anthem, while Jon Batiste will perform The Star-Spangled Banner. Lauren Daigle and Trombone Shorty will collaborate on America the Beautiful. Otis Jones IV will provide an ASL interpretation of Ledisi’s performance.
Since 2020, Lift Every Voice and Sing has been part of the Super Bowl pre-game show. Written in 1899 by James Weldon Johnson and composed by his brother John Rosamond Johnson, the hymn is a tribute to resilience and unity. Previous performers include Alicia Keys, Mary Mary, and Andra Day.
Daigle, a Louisiana native, expressed excitement about showcasing New Orleans culture and offering a message of hope. She emphasized the city’s resilience and the power of music to bring people together.
Super Bowl LIX will take place on February 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles. The game and performances will air on Fox and stream on Fubo and Tubi, beginning at 6:30 p.m. ET.
