Birdman has used a variety of monikers during his career, but in 2023 he plans to alter his official identity.
The co-founder of Cash Money Records announced this week on social media that he will now go by Bryan Brooks instead of Bryan Williams, which is expected to become official in the first quarter of 2019.
“In February 2023, I won’t be Williams no more. I’ll be Bryan Christopher Brooks,” he explained. “He a Patterson, I’m a Williams. 2023 I’m changing my name.
“I was born Bryan Brooks. My momma died and my daddy came and got me out the foster home and I became a Williams and I love him with every piece of my soul, but 2023 I want to die Bryan Brooks.”
Rappers have changed their names frequently recently, and Birdman is not the only one. After Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Michelle Williams granted his request in October 2021, Kanye West modified his name to Ye last year. Kanye stated “personal reasons” for the change in the legal filing.
“I believe Ye is the most commonly used word in the Bible,” he said. “And in the Bible, it means, ‘You.’” I’m all of you.”
In unrelated Stunna news, earlier this month he visited his former protege B.G. in jail. Birdman’s travel to the Federal Correctional Institution in Herlong, California, where the former member of the Hot Boys has been imprisoned since 2012, was captured in a video posted to B.G.’s official Instagram page.
In the text that comes at the conclusion of the video, which solely depicts Birdman’s arrival and departure and is set to B.G.’s 1999 hit “Cash Money Is An Army,” it is written: “In the end, they will call you a lot of things.” Just make sure one of them is sturdy.
Although there have been reports that B.G. may be released early, his scheduled release date is still April 7, 2024.
“Just know when my feet hit these streets, you gonna hear it here first, #RNS,” he wrote. “I appreciate all the luv and well wishes [prayer hands emoji] But when that day comes I promise it’s gonna be #WorthTheWAIT”
