Biggie Smalls is a legendary figure, so it’s not surprising that his limited-edition Air Jordan XIIIs brought in bids of more than $30,000 this week at auction.
Each of the 23 pairs of Air Jordan XIIIs sold at the Sotheby’s auction, which ended on Friday (February 3). The highest offer saw a 9.5 and 10.5 sell for $32,760 each.
The Christopher Wallace Air Jordan XIII was developed in collaboration with Jordan Brand and the Christopher Wallace Memorial Foundation to commemorate the start of the “Jordan Year” on February 3, 2023, or 2/3/23 (marking NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan’s jersey number).
On Biggie’s 45th birthday in 2017, this precise hue of MJ’s 13th signature shoe was made, but it has remained a secret ever since. The late rapper’s appearance on the shoe is a tribute to Hip Hop’s 50th birthday.
The sneaker has a black and anthracite upper with text and photos honoring Notorious B.I.G., his legacy, and the icon’s faith and tenacity throughout. A silhouette of Big Poppa can be seen on the tongue, which also has insoles and a sock liner made of red and black flannel.
