Big Wy's Death As Inglewood Rapper Is Mourned By Snoop Dogg, Westside Gunn, & More

Snoop Dogg, Westside Gunn, and other celebrities have joined the outpouring of sympathy for Big Wy’s tragic passing.

Despite the lack of information regarding the 49-year-old’s death, many in the hip-hop scene paid tribute to the former Death Row rapper on Friday (June 2) with a variety of social media messages. The Inglewood native (real name Wytony Dillon) supposedly passed away recently.

Big Wy’s picture was shared online by Tha Doggfather with the comment “R.I.P.,” and the Buffalo rapper paid respect to him on Twitter with the message “BIG WY.”  Another Good 1 has passed away. RIP.

In a touching video made in Wy’s honor, producer Terrace Martin concluded, “Sending love and blessings to the family of Big Wy. A lovely individual was lost. A prominent member of the community from the West Coast city of Inglewood passed away.

“I used to go chat to someone all night about questions, and they all had valuable West Coast history to impart on me. He was a father, a teacher, and a son. Simply everything, you all.

Peace and love to the people of Inglewood and everyone else who has been impacted by this awful loss, he continued. Big Wy, please go in peace.

As a member of Bloods & Crips in the 1990s, Big Wy made his rap debut, rhyming under the pseudonym Red Rag. In 1994, he oversaw the formation of the Young Soldierz group, which later signed with Death Row Records and appeared on soundtracks including Murder Was The Case.

Big Wy made his imprint on hip hop by helping to found the “Teach Me How To Dougie” rap group Cali Swag District in 2010, following a time as one-half of The Relativez.

A rare cameo appearance by Big Wy on YG’s Blame It On the Streets track “Bicken Back Being Bool” in 2014 marks his most recent appearance.
