Big Daddy Kane Clears Up Fat Joe Story, Recalls Onstage Moment With Biggie and Tupac

Big Daddy Kane joined Shannon Sharpe on Club Shay Shay to reflect on his connections with The Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, while also clearing up Fat Joe’s story about missing a chance to share the stage.

Kane recalled his first interactions with Biggie through phone calls arranged by DJ Mister Cee. He spoke on Biggie’s rapid artistic growth, saying he witnessed a sharp rise in his lyrical ability within a single year. Kane noted that he held great respect for the Brooklyn MC and believed his potential was unmatched.

He also reflected on bringing both Biggie and Tupac on stage during the Budweiser Superfest at Madison Square Garden. Kane explained that Tupac was in New York filming Above the Rim and joined Biggie for the event. Kane allowed them to freestyle together, tying it back to his own early career when Bobby Brown gave him a similar opportunity at the Garden.

Addressing Fat Joe’s claim that he was supposed to perform that same night, Kane confirmed the account. He explained that time restrictions prevented him from inviting Joe on stage, a decision that stayed with him given Joe’s status as an emerging artist at the time.

Kane went on to discuss working with Tupac in the studio, recalling tracks they recorded alongside MC Hammer, including Wherever You Are and Too Late Player. He shared that Suge Knight had attempted to sign him to Death Row East, though Kane ultimately turned down the offer after feeling uneasy during negotiations.

Reflecting on the legacies of both Biggie and Tupac, Kane said their influence was evident despite their short careers, emphasizing how quickly their impact grew before their passing.
