Beyoncé Snubbed At 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards Despite 17 Nominations for Cowboy Carter.

Beyoncé faced disappointment at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards, leaving the ceremony without any wins despite receiving the second-highest number of nominations. Going into the event, held on Thursday, September 26, the superstar had been nominated for an impressive 17 categories, thanks to her chart-topping album Cowboy Carter.

The People’s Country Music Awards, a fan-voted event that prides itself as “an award show for the people and by the people,” opened its voting period from August 13 to August 23. Even with the large number of nominations, Beyoncé walked away empty-handed. She did, however, receive a shout-out from Shaboozey, a featured artist on Cowboy Carter, during his acceptance speech, where he thanked her for “being amazing.”

Cowboy Carter has been a massive success since its release in March. The album debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with 407,000 equivalent album units sold in its first week, marking the biggest sales week of 2024 at that time. Additionally, 23 of the album’s 27 tracks made it onto the Billboard Hot 100, boosting Beyoncé’s career total to 106 entries on the chart. This milestone made her the 17th artist and only the third woman to surpass 100 entries since the Hot 100’s inception in 1958.

Despite this commercial success, Beyoncé was also notably snubbed by the 2024 Country Music Awards, receiving no nominations. Her father attributed the snub to her race, while country legend Dolly Parton offered a different perspective in a conversation with Variety earlier this month.

“There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess probably the country music field thought, well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that,” Parton said. She praised Cowboy Carter and noted that country music welcomed Beyoncé, calling the album “wonderful.” Parton also clarified that the snub wasn’t intentional but rather a reflection of the traditional country music scene.

Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter features a cover of Parton’s iconic song “Jolene,” and Dolly has expressed interest in performing a duet of the track with her. However, Beyoncé has yet to comment on the award season snubs.
