JAY-Z made his mark on the 2023 Grammy Awards by performing “God Did” at the end of the ceremony with DJ Khaled, Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, John Legend, and Fridayy.
The heavyweight foursome held court outside the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday night (February 5), when they brought their Grammy-nominated collaboration to life beneath purple street lights, despite not winning any hardware inside the arena.
Rozay and Weezy began the performance with their guest verses while Khaled played his well-known position as the hypeman, joined by a live band and with Legend perched behind a keyboard. They do not want us to triumph, So I made sure I was on the largest Grammy platform possible! Hip-hop needs this! This is for the streets!” he roared in victory.
With Ross, Wayne, Khaled, and close friends “OG Juan” Perez and Emory “Vegas” Jones—both of whom he name dropped on the song—by his side, Hov tore through his show-stopping verse in one take while seated behind a sumptuous dinner table.
The song “God Did” was nominated for three Grammy Awards: Song of the Year, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance. With 88 nominations overall, JAY-Z is now tied with his wife Beyoncé as the most nominated artist in Grammy history.
