Apple Music Introduces A New Dj Integration, Allowing Users To Mix Sets Directly From Its Catalog.

Apple Music has introduced a new feature that allows subscribers to build and mix DJ sets directly from its catalog of over 100 million songs. The integration connects Apple Music with leading DJ software and hardware providers, including AlphaTheta, Serato, and inMusic’s Engine DJ, Denon DJ, Numark, and RANE DJ. This collaboration aims to create an ecosystem for music mixing and discovery.

The integration provides direct access to Apple Music’s full library and introduces a dedicated DJ with Apple Music category page. Additionally, curated editorial playlists have been developed specifically for DJs. This launch builds on Apple Music’s existing DJ-focused initiatives, such as the DJ Mixes program introduced in September 2021 and Apple Music Club, a 24/7 global radio station featuring curated DJ sets, which debuted in December.

Stephen Campbell, Global Head of Dance, Electronic & DJ Mixes at Apple Music, emphasized the company’s commitment to DJs. He noted that this integration strengthens that commitment by seamlessly linking Apple Music with industry-leading DJ software and hardware. He explained that the new feature enhances the creative workflow, making it easier for DJs to access, play, and discover music in real time.

This feature arrives shortly after Apple Music introduced a new promotional subscription offer, allowing users to access the service for $2.99 per month for six months. The integration is expected to impact DJs of all levels, from beginners to professionals.

Karim Morsy, CEO of Algoriddim, a Germany-based software company known for its digital music mixing program djay, described the integration as a transformative development. He highlighted how instant access to Apple Music’s catalog allows DJs to mix music anytime and anywhere, with tools such as Automix for hands-free transitions and advanced mixing features for custom sets.

AlphaTheta President and CEO Yoshinori Kataoka also praised the integration, calling it a significant step in making DJing more accessible. AlphaTheta, known for producing DJ equipment and software, has added Apple Music support to its rekordbox DJ software and selected hardware systems.

Morgan Donoghue, VP of Marketing for DJ Brands at inMusic, echoed similar sentiments, emphasizing that the collaboration ensures DJs can seamlessly discover and integrate new music into their workflow. Young Ly, CEO of Serato, described the partnership as a milestone, stating that it provides both new and established DJs with access to one of the largest streaming catalogs in the world.

Beyond Apple Music, other digital streaming platforms have also expanded their DJ-related offerings in recent years. In late 2020, SoundCloud launched SoundCloud DJ, a $19.99-per-month plan providing unlimited offline access to its catalog through DJ performance software. Last year, Beatport, an online store focused on electronic music and DJ culture, partnered with Amazon-owned Twitch to create a channel supporting DJs. Twitch also introduced a DJ program in June 2024 to accommodate the increasing number of DJs streaming on its platform.
