Apple Introduces iPhone Air, iPhone 17 Lineup, New Watches, and AirPods Pro 3 at September Event.

Apple announced significant updates to its product lineup, unveiling new iPhones, Apple Watches, and the long-anticipated AirPods Pro 3. Some devices are already available for order, while others will open for preorder on Friday ahead of their release later this month.

iPhone Air

Apple confirmed the launch of the iPhone Air, replacing the Plus variant. The company describes the model as “impossibly thin,” though it maintains strong internal specifications. The device runs on the new A19 Pro chip, includes Apple’s in-house N1 Wi-Fi chip, and the updated C1X modem. Despite its slim build, Apple states that the battery matches the iPhone 16 Plus with up to 27 hours of video playback. In PCMag testing, the iPhone 16 Plus delivered 21 hours and 51 minutes.

The iPhone Air has a single rear camera, with Apple noting it functions like multiple advanced cameras. The device starts at $999 for the 256GB version, with preorders opening Friday and release on September 19.

iPhone 17 Lineup

Apple also introduced the iPhone 17 family, including the iPhone 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max. The series drops one phone from previous lineups but features the usual performance and camera upgrades. The Pro models return to aluminum frames, moving away from titanium, and are promoted with enhanced battery life of up to 39 hours of video playback.

Pricing for the Pro lineup begins at $1,099, with the base storage now starting at 256GB since Apple removed the 128GB option. The Pro Max can be configured with up to 2TB storage for $2,000. Both Pro models will be available in a new “cosmic orange” color. Preorders open Friday.

iOS 26 and Other Operating Systems

All new iPhones will ship with iOS 26, with the update becoming available to iPhone 11 and newer devices on September 15. Additional updates rolling out the same day include iPadOS 26, watchOS 26, macOS Tahoe 26, and visionOS 26.

Extended Satellite Support

Apple announced an extension of free satellite connectivity for iPhone 14 and 15 users. The service allows emergency SOS messaging and limited texting in areas without cellular coverage. Apple continues to work with Globalstar to expand satellite capabilities. The Ultra 3 smartwatch also gains satellite support.

New Apple Watches

The Apple Watch SE 3, Series 11, and Ultra 3 were unveiled, marking updates across the wearable line. The SE 3, priced at $249, adds features such as an always-on display and fast charging. The Series 11, starting at $399, and the Ultra 3, at $799, include new features such as hypertension alerts and a Sleep Score tracker. All three models are available for preorder now and launch September 19.

AirPods Pro 3

Apple introduced the third generation of AirPods Pro, the first update in three years. The earbuds include live translation features supporting French, German, Portuguese, and Spanish. They also integrate fitness monitoring such as heart rate tracking via iPhone for users without an Apple Watch. Apple claims improved fit to reduce the risk of earbuds falling out. AirPods Pro 3 are available for preorder at $249.

iPhone 16 Line Updates

Following the new iPhone 17 release, Apple discontinued the iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max from its official store, though they remain available from carriers and third-party retailers. The standard iPhone 16 and 16 Plus continue to be sold at reduced prices, now $699 and $799 respectively. The iPhone 16e remains on sale without a price change.
