André 3000 visited Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta on June 5 to play a surprise flute concert for four new mothers and their babies. The hospital shared the moment on Instagram, describing the performance as “serenity in the key of ATL.” Photos showed André with families and staff in the hospital halls.
The appearance comes nearly two years after his debut solo album New Blue Sun. André, who lost his mother Sharon Benjamin-Hodo in 2012, has honored her in past musical releases. In 2018, he shared instrumental tracks on SoundCloud dedicated to her memory.
This was his second Atlanta appearance that week, following a pop-up performance with Big Boi and the Dungeon Family. In May, he released a surprise EP titled 7 Piano Sketches, made up of improvised piano instrumentals.
