Akon Plans Country Remakes of His Hits, Starting With "Locked Up".

Akon has announced that he’s reworking his entire music catalog into country versions, joining the growing wave of hip-hop and country crossovers. The singer shared the news while speaking with TMZ in New York, revealing that the project has been in development for five years.

“I’m actually redoing my whole catalog in country,” Akon said. “Starting next month, y’all gonna start seeing all the releases.” He explained that country artists will take the lead on the songs, while he features as a guest. One confirmed track in the series is his early hit “Locked Up.”

This move follows a trend of genre-blending collaborations. In recent years, artists like Nelly and Tim McGraw (“Over and Over”), BigXthaPlug and Bailey Zimmerman (“All the Way”), and Snoop Dogg with ERNEST (“Gettin’ Gone”) have all bridged country and hip-hop.

Akon’s country project is expected to roll out soon, adding a new chapter to the wave of genre crossover.
