In honor of his mother, who was injured and missed one of Jelly Roll’s gigs, he has announced a special event in a nursing home.
The Nashville, Tennessee, native took to Twitter on Wednesday (December 21) to announce the special performance to make up for his mother missing his colossal headline concert at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville.
“My mother fell and broke her ankle right before the nashville show,” Jelly Roll tweeted. “She’s been sad she missed the show. So this week I’m going to the nursing home with the guitar and putting on a show.”
The Jelly Roll concert at Bridgestone Arena, which seated 19,000 people, featured special guests like Tech N9ne, Krizz Kaliko, Struggle Jennings, and others. For the 37-year-old who used to hawk mixtapes out of the trunk of his car in his hometown, the 130-minute performance took a long time to come.
The local non-profit Impact Adolescents Outreach, which assists impoverished and at-risk youth in the Nashville area, received the show’s proceeds. In addition to giving $250,000 to the initiative, Jelly Roll unveiled plans for the Davidson County Juvenile Detention Center’s recording studio and music activities.
In an effort to give back, the artist is also financing Hometown Heroes Scholarships for seniors at Metro Nashville Public Schools in his community. When the artist was younger, he was in a similar situation. Jelly Roll had been in and out of the juvenile correctional facility since he was 14 years old before starting his music career.
