Adidas Has Restarted Selling Yeezy's With One Catch, Says Kanye West

After terminating their agreement, adidas will once more sell Kanye West’s Yeezy sneakers, but there is a specific strategy in place.

The company devised a short-term plan to rescue what can be saved by selling the remaining inventory, adidas CEO Bjorn Gulden disclosed on May 11.

According to Complex, Gulden at the time told investors, “What we are trying to do now over time is sell parts of this inventory and donate money to the organizations that are helping us and that were also hurt by Kanye’s statements.”

The strategy was put into effect on Wednesday, May 31, when adidas’ official website announced the sale of “some of the remaining inventory,” stating that a “portion from the sale of these items will be donated in support of the fight against discrimination, hate, racism, and antisemitism.” The products come in both current and 2022-born (for 2023 sales) styles.

The company’s current financial outlook for 2023 is not immediately affected by the news made today.

In a news statement, adidas stated that the Anti-Defamation League and the Philonise & Keeta Floyd Institute for Social Change are among the groups that will benefit. They also mentioned that there are ongoing plans for more releases of stock.

Gulden issued a statement saying, “After careful deliberation, we have decided to start releasing some of the remaining Adidas Yeezy products.” “All organizations and stakeholders we spoke to indicated that selling and donating were the preferable options. We think this is the best option since it respects the designs and shoes that were made, works for our staff, addresses the inventory issue, and will benefit our local communities. Any form of hatred has no place in society or in sport, and we are steadfast in our efforts to eradicate it.

adidas broke off business connections with West in October of last year as a result of a number of antisemitic comments he made in interviews and on social media. The business terminated its contract and then issued a statement outlining the circumstances.

The statement added, “adidas does not tolerate antisemitism and any other form of hate speech.” Ye has recently made remarks and taken acts that are undesirable, dangerous, and against the company’s principles of inclusiveness, respect, and fairness.

“After carefully considering all options, the company has decided to immediately sever its collaboration with Ye, stop making Yeezy-branded products, and stop paying Ye and his enterprises. The adidas Yeezy business will end immediately at adidas.

In the midst of their contentious legal dispute, West asserted that adidas had stopped his bank accounts in an interview with the celebrity news website X17. Unexpectedly, it turned out that he was correct.

On May 30, a federal judge in Manhattan ruled in favor of Kanye and rejected adidas’ plea for an urgent order to refreeze $75 million owned by the Yeezy company. While this is a setback for adidas, the decision on Tuesday merely rejected the emergency request; the sportswear manufacturer can still succeed in obtaining a more formal order in the coming days reinstating an asset freeze on Yeezy.
