A Freestyle Rap By John Cena Prevented Him From Being Fired By Wwe

According to John Cena, his WWE career would have most certainly been over if it weren’t for his bars.

The former professional wrestler turned actor recently spoke with Andrew Santino on the Whiskey Ginger podcast about his love of Hip Hop and how his ability to freestyle early in his career when things weren’t going well lead to longevity in the ring.

“They were unaware of my identity. Although everything was going well, nobody could relate to who I am. He added that he was getting ready for what he believed to be his “last” international tour in the United Kingdom and that he was about to lose his job since he wasn’t performing properly.

“On the tour bus overseas, they travel us all together and some of the guys are freestyling in the back. So I went in the back and waited for my turn and joined in, and just did the best I could — and tried to unleash the fury.”

Cena was asked if he felt comfortable incorporating the bit into his routine after performing a freestyle about McMahon on the spot. He agreed, and he feels this spared him from being dropped from the team.

On the Halloween broadcast of Smackdown that year, the new act made its debut. It started as a straightforward costume before changing into his new identity.
