In addition to other personal artifacts, DJ Drama has declared that he will be auctioning off his Platinum Plaque for Jack Harlow’s “What’s Poppin.”
The trailblazing DJ is selling one of his most valued things in association with KIRPA, a recent digital auction company that specializes in memorabilia from luminaries of Hip Hop culture (One of the platform’s initial auctions featured EPMD’s iconic 10-piece memorabilia collection).
DJ Drama, who is ecstatic about the auction, says he thinks that it is achievable because of the Hip Hop culture’s widespread influence.
“When I was asked about it and gave it some thought, I recognized how brilliant of an idea it was and how significant our culture is to the globe, so I decided to do this auction with KIRPA. The biggest export from America to other countries is the black culture in general. Then, when we discuss how significantly Hip-Hop has altered our world and brought us closer together in so many ways over the past 50 years, Drama told HipHopDX.
“You have a generation of people of other colors that aren’t of African American descent that grew up on this music, that because of it, view the world in a different way. There are items and pieces of history that so many of us have owned or have been a part of that you know, just as in other genres of music, mean something,” he continued. “Hip Hop is the same, and has been, and needs to be respected in that way, and I saw the genius in the idea and concept and I feel like I would be a fool not to participate and be able to share with the world some of the things that have meant so much to me over the span of my career.”
Twista’s personalized collection, which “boasts many accolades, jewels, and attire” from his illustrious career,” is among the items up for sale by KIRPA.
“I’m just feeling the atmosphere overall. Twista remarked, “When it was brought up to me, I lighted up and simply wanted to be a part of it. I’m eager to be on the other side of the fence and see what I can learn from one of the other guys, even though I’m performing this part. I’m thrilled to be a part of this wonderful project.
On November 20th, at 08:00 PM EST, the auction ends.
DJ Drama and Snoop Dogg just released their new mixtape Gangsta Grillz: I Still Got It in addition to their participation in the auction game.
The mixtape, which has 13 songs altogether, features Dave East, Trinidad James, and Juicy J, as well as former members of Death Row Kurupt and Daz Dillinger.
The project serves as a showcase for Death Row’s fresh talent, which Snoop acquired earlier this year. As the label’s newest signees, October London and Jane Handcock make brief appearances on the mixtape.
