A star-studded lineup of singers is scheduled to hit the stage at the 65th Annual Grammy Awards to commemorate Hip Hop’s 50th anniversary, including Busta Rhymes, Missy Elliott, and many others.
At Sunday night’s (February 5) ceremony, LL COOL J will serve as emcee for the celebratory portion, with legendary Roots drummer Questlove serving as producer and Black Thought serving as narrator.
Big Boi, De La Soul, DJ Drama, DJ Jazzy Jeff, Future, GloRilla, Grandmaster Flash, Melle Mel, Scorpio, Ice-T, Lil Baby, Lil Wayne, The LOX, Method Man, Nelly, Public Enemy, Queen Latifah, Rakim, Run-DMC, Salt-N-Pepa and Spinderella, Scarface, Swizz Beatz, and Too $hort are among the numerous other guests on the lengthy guest list
“For five decades, Hip Hop has not only been a defining force in music, but a major influence on our culture,” Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. relayed in a statement (via Billboard) . “Its contributions to art, fashion, sport, politics, and society cannot be overstated.
“I’m so proud that we are honoring it in such a spectacular way on the Grammy stage. It is just the beginning of our yearlong celebration of this essential genre of music.”
Quavo will participate in this year’s In Memoriam segment, which honors the revered musicians who have passed away since the last awards event, the Recording Academy also said on Wednesday, February 1.
