Amanda Shea recently revisited a performance close to her heart, sharing a reflection on “Resilience,” a spoken word piece presented during the City of Boston’s Black History Month 2023 celebration. The event, hosted by the Office of Racial Justice and Equity, included appearances by Mayor Michelle Wu and featured local artists spotlighting themes of Black joy and identity.
Shea’s performance was captured in the I AM documentary by Blue Bird Productions LLC. In a recent social media post, the Boston-based artist posed a thoughtful question to her audience:
“What does resilience mean to you?”
The event combined spoken word poetry and vocal performances in a program designed to honor the contributions and experiences of Boston’s Black communities. Shea’s piece added to a lineup that emphasized the power of storytelling and lived experience during a month of reflection and recognition.
