Playboi Carti’s latest album MUSIC has now spent a third non-consecutive week at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. The project returned to the top after briefly falling to No. 2 last week when Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine deluxe release took the top spot. This marks the fourth total tracking week for MUSIC, which earned 64,000 album-equivalent units in the most recent week. Billboard and Luminate reported that 96 percent of the album’s performance came from streaming. Notably, this is the lowest total for a No. 1 album since Morgan Wallen’s One Thing At A Time reached the top with 61,000 units in January 2024.
Other albums rounding out the top 10 this week include Ariana Grande’s eternal sunshine, SZA’s SOS, Kendrick Lamar’s GNX, and Bad Bunny’s DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS. Drake and PARTYNEXTDOOR also charted high with their collaborative Valentine’s Day project $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, which landed at No. 3.
Despite some controversy surrounding his involvement with Yeezy, Playboi Carti continues to find chart success. Fans are also looking ahead to his next project, BABY BOI, which has yet to receive a confirmed release date. While Carti’s rollout strategies are often unpredictable, both he and DJ Swamp Izzo have hinted that new material is on the way.
Still, fans remain cautious, especially after reports that Carti scrapped a full album in 2022. Even so, the strong performance of MUSIC could push him to build on the momentum and release another project sooner rather than later. Whether it arrives quickly or takes more time, BABY BOI will be expected to follow up Carti’s most commercially successful release to date.
