Gocha Hawkins Releases Cookbook While Growing Her Atlanta Brunch Brand And Supporting Local Chefs.

Gocha Hawkins, the owner of Gocha’s Tapas and Breakfast Bar in Atlanta, has published her first cookbook, Cooking with Gocha: Easy, Flavorful Recipes for Breakfast & Brunch Lovers. The book features 90 dishes, including her takes on Southern staples like shrimp and grits, as well as vegan options like cauliflower steak. Hawkins, who began her career as a hairstylist, gradually transitioned into the food industry and has since built a steady following for her casual brunch offerings.

She moved to Atlanta’s southwest side in 2014 and opened her first restaurant in 2018. Hawkins said she noticed a lack of local dining options in the neighborhood and decided to focus on breakfast, something she felt was missing. Her approach to food came from her own eating habits—recipes that are both simple and nutritious. She developed her dishes based on personal taste and later refined them for her restaurant and now for home kitchens.

During the pandemic, Hawkins adapted by starting a food truck and eventually expanded her Cascade restaurant by taking over the space next door. Unlike some businesses that relocate, she chose to remain in the neighborhood, explaining that small businesses play a role in local economic stability by providing jobs and keeping resources within the community.

Beyond her restaurants, Hawkins has invested in other efforts like food giveaways, coat drives, and college grants for employees. She plans to launch a shared kitchen space in Atlantic Station under her Gocha’s Restaurant Group brand. The space is designed for chefs who want to start a food business but may not be able to afford their own restaurant.

The cookbook took over a year and a half to complete and also includes ways to recreate Gocha’s hot sauce and pancakes. Pre-orders are now available.
